What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energetic “healing” modality.  It originates in Japan, with founder Dr. Mikao Usui, in the late 1800’s.  The legend goes that Dr. Usui spent nearly a month alone in a mountain cave, meditating and fasting.  At the end of the 21 days, he experienced a spiritual awakening that led to the creation of the Usui Reiki system.

While there are many different energy modalities that are called “Reiki”, the Usui system can be considered the original and true Reiki.  This is not to say that other forms aren’t as powerful, because they can be just as potent as Usui Reiki.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is referred to as a “healing” system, but the truth is that Reiki doesn’t heal anything.  The Reiki “healer” is simply a facilitator who helps balance a client’s energy systems. As the energy is stabilized, it encourages the body systems to heal themselves.

As we know, everything is energy. Our bodies send and receive signals both internally and externally.  Our neural pathways are the communication network between the brain and our bodies. A Reiki practitioner will help balance these networks, allowing them to function more optimally.

Why Reiki?

Reiki is a holistic modality that works in conjunction with anything.  It is becoming more accepted in Western medicine, and can often be found in hospitals, especially in surgical areas, where Reiki has proven to diminish pain and shorten healing time.

People who experience Reiki often mention a stronger sense of well-being, peace, and relief from stress and tension. Reiki can help you sooth the inner chaos.

Reiki is non-invasive, and can be experienced in person, or through a distance session.  Reiki is also 100% safe.  It is never painful, and there are no contraindications with medications or protocols the client may be using.

Who benefits from Reiki?

Anyone.

Reiki is beneficial for those who are under stress, overwhelmed, and exhausted.  It is also helpful for those facing surgery, chemotherapy, and other health issues.

Reiki is for all ages, all states of health, everyone.  Even animals, plants, and places will improve and thrive with the application of this energy modality.

When is Reiki helpful?

Anytime, anywhere.

Even if you are very healthy, with no obvious issues, Reiki can help you maintain your level of health and activity.  You shouldn’t wait until you’re feeling poorly before scheduling your session.

How often should I get a Reiki session?

This is an individual choice. Some people enjoy monthly sessions.  Others prefer to get a session only on occasion. Daily Reiki is a wonderful way to start the day, too.  It’s a beautiful self-care technique.

Talking to your Reiki practitioner can help you decide how often is right for you.

Can I learn how to do Reiki?

Absolutely!  Anyone can learn to do Reiki.  If you choose to, you can even become a Reiki professional and see clients, though many people simply want to learn how to work with the healing energy to use with themselves, family, and friends.

Reiki can be studied in person with a local Master-Teacher, it can also be done via distance classes.  Either choice will be a powerful experience, although I would recommend an interactive class where the instructor is available to answer questions, demonstrate techniques, and guide you through practice.

Reiki classes can be taken in person, or via Zoom conferencing.  Reiki sessions can be done in person, via Zoom, or scheduled at the client’s convenience for when they are sleeping (Yes!  I can do that!)
